Start with drainage
Mesh lets rain and melting snow pass through the material. Solid-cover designs may use drain panels or an automatic cover pump. The name “solid” does not tell you the complete drainage arrangement.
LOOP-LOC, for example, describes solid covers with mesh drainage panels and an all-solid design that requires an automatic pump. Compare the instructions for the actual covers being quoted, including the care and equipment needed to manage water.
Compare the products using the same questions
- Water: how does it leave the cover, and is a pump part of the arrangement?
- Light and debris: what do the material specifications say can pass through?
- Handling: what does removal, drying, and storage involve?
- Care: what observations, debris removal, and water management remain the owner’s responsibility?
- Fit: how are steps, raised walls, and other features accommodated?
Nearby trees, the pool’s surroundings, and the routine you want to maintain are useful context. Neither category removes the need to follow the product’s care instructions.
Treat replacement as a fitting project
An existing cover gives the team useful starting information. Keep the old order details if available and identify changes to decking, anchors, steps, or water features.
Existing anchor positions are not a promise of compatibility. The new cover’s requirements, measurements, and site need review. Replacing a cover with one that looks similar is not the same as confirming a correct fit.
Read care and safety instructions together
Look for guidance about water management, debris, straps, hardware, rubbing points, and storage. Describe visible wear before ordering or arranging seasonal service.
A safety cover must be the appropriate product and correctly installed. It is part of a broader approach to pool safety, alongside supervision and other required barriers. It is not a walking or play surface.
Manual seasonal covers, powered pool covers and lockable spa covers have different roles in barrier planning. See which cover provisions apply.
Separate a seasonal cover from an automatic system
An automatic operating cover has moving components and its own care requirements. If the problem is uneven movement, a cover that will not open or close, or mechanical wear, start with automatic-cover service.
